Before thunderstorms occur, a sudden change in the winds direction and wind speed increase.
The air then starts to rise within the thunderstorm, the updraft tilts upward.
The funnel then begins to rotate, from 2 to 6 miles wide. The stronger the rotation the stronger the tornado.
