How fast do tornadoes move?

A tornado can rotate over 200 miles an hour. But when tornadoes move forward they move much slower, when moving forward they only go 30 miles and hour or less. You must also remember that the tornadoes path ranges from 100 yards to one mile, and are normally 15 miles long. They can last for a few seconds to over and hour, so no matter how fast a tornado moves it will still probably be very destructive.

  1. Delainey,
Did you know that experts once thought tornado winds exceeded 500 mph, but research in recent years have shown that winds rarely exceed 250 mph and most tornadoes have winds of less than 112 mph.

  2. Really? I'm doing hurricanes and the two storms are very similar, except hurricanes have water. There winds are a little slower too. Hurricane winds are 75 miles an hour or more. Thats a 125 mile an hour wind difference.
